BEADWORK BY BLACK LOTUS . . . "bringing you magic with a bead and a prayer." |
HOME
My name is D. Jean Collins. As mentioned on my "About" page; my desire is to create beadwork and folk art for celebrations of all that make life worth living: the Sacred, the Beautiful, the Loving, the Joyful, the Peaceful, and other divine deeply felt moments.
Like many artists and other creative people, my designs come from dreams, visions and magical images from nature. Sometimes they come without calling, other times I have asked for the design by playing with different patterns, different colors, and different materials.
Jewelry and beadwork have been found in rivers, caves, pyramids, tombs and other places throughout time, across the cultures of many people. It is said that the word "bead" comes from a word meaning "prayer. " So the very act of working with beads, if we so desire, becomes an incense of prayers. And we try to capture that sweetness into solid form for a time. I imagine our first intergalactic trades will again involve beads of some kind.
Down here on earth, I hope the magic of the work of my friends and I inspires you to buy our creations.
"These are our works, these works our souls display. Behold our works now and when we have passed away." THE MATHNAWI, Jalaluddin Rumi
